A Raised Center Aisle (RCA) barn (used a lot by horse owners)
provides our rabbits with good ventilation.

The sides are open. We use tarps to protect from the
winter wind and shadecloth in the summer to protect from the heat.
The lower roof is about 6 1/2 feet tall at the edge with a 24"
overhang. The ceiling is insulated. The center ridge is 12 feet
tall. This barn is 90' feet long and 26' wide. But.....the east part of
the barn is different. We began our rabbitry by moving 32 does
and 4 bucks into a renovated "loafing shed" that we had
used to house baby calves. The RCA portion was added shortly after.

We have another barn (45' long) for our fryers. It is not RCA and I
sure wish it were.

The new Barn, this half is about half done, I will be adding another section on the east side..
This side is 20 X 40..It will fully insulated and have a Evac. Cooler with Dirt Floor.

the center is *ft. and the side walls are 7 ft to keep down on the cooling and heating cost
This first part will have room for 40 does and 4 bucks..and the fryers will be in other barn..there will also be river rock in the walk ways..with half drums under the cages to catch the droppings..

we have 4 windows to provide good ventilation, in spring and fall..

I am hoping to have this part finished by Oct..if the heat holds off so I can work on it..

Instead of insulation in the ceiling, "snow roof" has been placed on the
outer surface to reduce heat. Trees were planted for shade. With
the low humidity, a mister system is effective for providing additional
cooling for the rabbits.

The A-Frames are 10' wide and 9' at the peak. Mechanical
ventilation is not needed due to the long, narrow design.

Temperature range (normally) is from the low 40's in the winter to
100 plus in the summer. On one occasion, the water was allowed to
drip to prevent freezing.

What are those wooden things in the cages? Dropped nesting
areas!
